A Crack in the door?

  • Mood: Hopeful
  • Topic: Action not Words

Those of you who have read my blog know that I have been very critical of President Obama because he has not made any moves towards making Gays and Lesbians full and equal citizens as guaranteed by the Constitution.

I believe that he wants to end Don’t Ask – Don’t Tell (DADT). I know that his desk his been full of many important problems. I think he has listened to the so called “professional politicians” who have urge caution. He should listen to those who ELECTED him.

Major MoveS must be made on gay civil rights and DADT is a great place to start. I can count votes as well as any other person and I know that some policies will need congressional action. DADT does not. Obama can wipe out the one form of discrimination tomorrow. The sooner the better.

Now, Admiral Mullen is careful to say he is speaking from a personal belief. I think however, it might be the beginning of a campaign to FINALLY get this done.

It is about time – and there is a lot more to do!

To Catch a Thief

What do you do when you have your $700 phone is stolen on a plane:  you track him down and get so much information about him and his family that he gives it back.

Story Below but first little editorial:

Why don't phone companies make it impossible for thieves to use stolen phones? Easy - it makes them money. The Thief uses the stolen phone  - money for them. You buy a new phone - MORE MONEY FOR THEM.

PHONE COMPANIES ARE ACCESORIES TO THE CRIME!

The same may be said for car companies - they could make cars impossible for a thief to use too.

HERE IS THE STORY:

The First Time I Ever Saw His Face:

  • Mood:
  • Event:
  • Topic:

i was in love.

Each and every day for the past 12 years that love has grown. This is for him:  (he loves heavy rock - I love this). He will understand.

Dave is in NYC. He left last Friday and will fly home on Thursday and land
London on Friday a.m. He should be home around noon. It is my Christ-
mas present to him.

This song says everything I could ever want to say to the love of my life.
He has only been gone for 5 days but I can't tell you how many times a
day I turn around to talk to him or how many times I yearn to touch him
or how many times I want to hug and kiss him.

He calls 3 or 4 times a day and we text too. I just played this song about
6 times. It warms my heart and brings wetness to my eyes. Countless
times we have told each other that were so lucky. My love grows with
the years.

Dave off to NYC

  • Mood: Excited
  • Event: Dave's trip
  • Topic: New E-book

Dave left this morning at 5:30 for Heathrow. He will be flying to NYC mid-morning. He is going for 7 days and will return home next Friday. This is my Christmas Present to Dave. He has several New York Ranger games set up. He has arranged to meet with several friends. He also has a date with an 18oz steak which comes with a gig as additional advantage.

Meanwhile, I will be going to dialysis - I time his trips by how many dialysis sessions I have before he comes home. This time it will be 3. However, I will be off to dialysis on Friday after he gets home at 12:00 so I won't see much of him until I get home as he will probably take a nap as well.

Bill at Queens Hospital Dialysis Clinic - Note tube leading in and out of Fistula

I have been using my netbook at dialysis because my purchase of a replacement for my Sony E-Book was a COMPLETE FAILURE. Trying to get the Sony 600 to work was extremely frustrating. I solved all the problems (it took days of trying and plenty of help from Dave) EXCEPT the final hurdle which was buying an e-book and loading it on the machine.

The PDF file and the directions which come with the machine are worse than USELESS. How do they expect to sell millions of these units when it is so hard to use? Beats me!

I have ordered an Amazon Kindle from America. It left Delaware yesterday and at 8 p.m. last night it was at Stansted Airport. It is about 25 miles from Stansted to my home so I am expecting it this am.

The best feature about the Kindle is that you can order books (wireless) and have them delivered to your machine in a very quick time.

I expect to be reading a book tonight at Dialysis.

Snow and Iceland

  • Mood: Hot and Cold

Cold Bill - Brrr

It has almost returned to normal here - but it snowing out west and we may get some tonight. For the first time in a week it is possible to walk outside without takng your life into your hands. Our sidewalks have been virtual ice for a long time now.

The last few days it has moderated with temps just above freezing. The secondary roads are now free of ice and snow (that make little or no attempt and sanding or salting the secondary roads. Little hills have become a bit of a trial.

In our house there is always a battle between cold Bill and hot Dave. On normal winter days he is in shorts and often little else. So, we turn the head up and down to try to make it confortable for each. This week, the heat has been on most of the time. Even with that, I was not always confortable and thus the picture above.

Today, we add a further complication. We had the furnace man in for the third time this winter. It apppears to be a valve that mixing between the hot water and the heat. The repair man turned off the hot water and the furnace it just about working. It turns on - but not for long - and as a result it is not exactly the Med in here but not the Artic either.

They, hopefully, will get this fixed tomorrow.

Mexican Restaurant

  • Mood: Satisfied

Bill and Dave befoe dinner at Chimichanga

We have barely been out of the house for a week. The snow and particularly the ice is so dangerous for both of us. No one thinks to shovel the snow and no takes care of the sidewalks.

We went to Chimichanga which is a chain of Mexican Restaurants in England. We have been before and they did not disappoint tonight. I had a steak tortilla salad and crab cakes for a starter. Dave had portobello mushrooms and nachos with pico de gall for starters and Chicken tortilla.

I also had Brownie with ice cream for desert and it really top off what was a great meal.

It is still cold and there is a threat of more snow.

Weather Blues Continue

  • Mood: Hopeful

Waiting for Transport to Dialysis - Again

We have not been out of the house since the latest series of snow which has turned to ice on sidewalks and side streets. The council takes no notice of the difficulties of the handicapped, elderly and others with mobility concerns.

The sun is out but it is still just 31F and will get colder tonight. It reached -21F or -8C on this island last night. The weather people are calling it the coldest day of the year. If I had the energy and strength I would shovel myselft but that is no longer possible.

The temps should be going up over the next 5 days. It looks like 36F and some rain on Sunday and Monday which hopefully will clear the ice of the sidewalk. We might have more snow on Sat. with the chances at 40% with highs of 34F and low of 30F.

It has not been fun.

SNOW IN THE UK?

  • Mood:

AT HOME WAITING FOR EARLY TRANSPORT

WHAT THE BBC DESCRIBED AS THE WORST "SNOW" EVENT IN DECADES HAS HIT BRITAIN. MUCH OF THE SOUTH EAST DOES NOT REMEMBER WHAT TO DO WITH SNOW. WE HAVE HAD MORE SNOW IN LAST 4 WEEKS THAN MY FIRST 11.5 YEARS IN EAST LONDON. THEY NEVER DO THE THE SIDE ROADS SO WHEN IT FREEZES TONIGHT IT WILL BE A BIT ICY.

AS A RESULT, I GOT PICKED UP AT 1:40 INSTEAD OF 4 PM TODAY. WE ARE ONLY DOING 2 HOURS OF DIALYSIS TODAY. HOPEFULLY, I WILL GET HOME BEFORE 6 PM TODAY AND WITH A BIT OF LUCK MAYBE EARLIER.
